The Pool Keepers was founded in January 2025 when owner Nathan Smith purchased the service division of Backyard Visions, a longtime Central Coast pool company.
Before The Pool Keepers, Nathan spent nearly two decades in the fire service, beginning as a volunteer and wildland firefighter and spending the bulk of his career as a firefighter/paramedic. A San Luis Obispo native with deep roots on the Central Coast, service and community have been part of Nathan’s life long before The Pool Keepers. It may seem like a long way from the firehouse to the pool business, but the principles behind the work aren’t all that different.
Show up prepared. Pay attention. Communicate clearly. Take care of your people. Keep your word. And when something is entrusted to you, take responsibility for doing the job right.
Those values became the foundation for The Pool Keepers and the kind of local service company Nathan wanted to build.
Caring for pools across the Central Coast
How long many of our technicians have been with us
A new name, with the same people caring for your pool
Proudly based in San Luis Obispo County
A local, maintenance-first pool team that treats every pool like part of the neighborhood.
That responsibility starts with how we take care of our own people.
The Pool Keepers is built around the same team mentality Nathan learned in the fire service: train together, work together, support one another, share responsibility, hold high standards and have each other’s backs.
We invest in our people because they’re the ones carrying our reputation into our customers’ homes every day.
Our managers take care of our technicians. Our technicians take care of one another. Our office supports the people in the field. And together, the entire team takes care of our customers.
To us, that’s servant leadership: taking responsibility for the people around you, helping them succeed and building a team that knows it can depend on one another.
There’s confidence in knowing your team has your back. But there’s something even more meaningful about knowing you’re there to have theirs.
That’s the kind of team we’re building because, ultimately, that entire team exists to take exceptional care of the customers who have trusted us to serve them.
The name itself reflects that philosophy.
To us, a Keeper means three things:
A Protector — someone who watches over and safeguards what has been entrusted to their care.
A Steward — someone trusted to care for something that belongs to someone else and who treats that responsibility with the respect it deserves.
A Promise Keeper — someone whose word means something and who follows through on the commitments they make.
Together, those three ideas define what being a Pool Keeper means to us: being trusted with something valuable, accepting responsibility for its care and keeping the promise we’ve made to look after it.
Our customers entrust us with an important part of their homes. That means caring for the pool itself, the water, the equipment and the investment behind it.
But pools are rarely just pools.
They’re gathering places. They’re where families spend time together, friends come over, kids learn to swim, summer afternoons disappear and memories are made.
Our role is behind the scenes: safeguarding and caring for the place that makes those moments possible.
That trust matters to us.
If we say we’ll do something, our word should mean something. If something isn’t right, we communicate. If we make a mistake, we take responsibility. And when a customer trusts us to care for their pool, we understand that our reputation goes with us into that backyard every week.
Your pool is our reputation. We care about getting it right.
Owning a pool should feel like a perk, not a chore.
But keeping it running smoothly takes experience, consistency, and the right approach. Most homeowners simply don’t have the time or expertise for that. That’s where we come in.
We focus on weekly cleaning and preventive care to keep your pool functional, safe, and running smoothly.
We live and work on the Central Coast, so we understand how local conditions affect your pool and how to keep everything in balance.
You’ll always know what we’re doing, why it matters, and what’s coming next.
From residential homes to rentals, HOAs, and shared spaces, we provide reliable pool cleaning and maintenance services for any setup.
We’re building The Pool Keepers to be the kind of local service company we believe should still exist.
Know your customers. Answer the phone. Show up. Communicate. Take pride in your work. Keep your word.
We pair those old-school service values with modern training, technology, water testing, preventative care and service reporting to give our customers a more consistent, dependable experience.
Technology shouldn’t replace personal service. It should help us provide better personal service.
Our goal isn’t simply a clean pool. It’s to safeguard our customers’ investment, stay ahead of problems, communicate clearly and take some of the worry of pool ownership off their shoulders.
That’s what we mean by Service with Peace of Mind.
The Pool Keepers proudly serves San Luis Obispo County and communities throughout California’s Central Coast.
We’re building a company that reflects the place we call home: a little coastal, a little country, a lot of local, and a whole lot of community.
Around here, relationships still matter. Reputation matters. A handshake still means something. People look out for their neighbors and local businesses are built one relationship at a time.
We want to create good local jobs, invest in our people, support the communities that support us and build relationships with customers that last for years.
The Central Coast isn’t simply our service area.
It’s our home.
Our customers are our neighbors. Our team lives and works here. And our reputation is being built right here alongside them.
We’re not trying to be the biggest pool company everywhere.
